The Palaung State Liberation Front/Ta’ang National Liberation Army (PSLF/TNLA) has sentenced a woman from Monglon, a sub-township in Kyaukme District in northern Shan State, to seven years in prison under Section 11 (a) of the Anti-Narcotic Drugs Law for drug possession, according to an official announcement.
The 59-year-old woman resides in Narhmyaw Village, Nyaunghtauk Village Tract, Monglon Sub-township.
Following information about her alleged involvement in drug trafficking, the Ta’ang Police Force raided her home and seized 142 soap boxes containing heroin and 132 grams of WY (yaba) methamphetamine pills, the report stated.
Under the anti-narcotic drug legislation enforced by the PSLF/TNLA, simple possession of drugs under Section 8 (c) carries a sentence of between two and seven years in prison, along with potential fines.
However, under Section 11 (a), which covers possession of drugs for resale, offenders face a minimum sentence of seven years and up to 20 years in prison, equivalent to life imprisonment.
The TNLA sentenced the woman to the minimum seven-year prison term under Section 11 (a).
