A landslide occurred along a stream where gold mining activities were taking place in Khway Kone Village, in the lower part of Hae Kham village-tract in Mongngawt Town, Kyaukme Township, northern Shan State, an area controlled by the Palaung State Liberation Front/Ta’ang National Liberation Army (PSLF/TNLA), killing one man.
“Yesterday, one person died in a landslide while gold panning near Hae Kham,” a person familiar with the incident told Shwe Phee Myay.
The incident occurred around 11:00 AM on August 20. The victim was identified as Aik Thet Paing Soe from Myothit Village in Namhsan Township, according to an anonymous judiciary official who spoke to Shwe Phee Myay.
“Two people were affected when the landslide occurred. One suffered injuries, while the other passed away,” the official said.
The deceased, Aik Thet Paing Soe, was 31 years old, while the injured individual was identified as Ko Kyaw Nyein.
Continuous heavy rainfall in the Ta’ang region has triggered frequent landslides, with this incident marking the first reported landslide-related fatality in the area.
