More than 130 individuals, including 41 Chinese citizens, were arrested after junta military and police forces raided two online scam centers in Muse, a township on Myanmar’s northern Shan State border with China.
The raids reportedly targeted centers that had failed to regularly pay bribes to regime departments and officials, according to sources close to the junta’s regime departments.
Around 10 a.m. on June 16, approximately 15 junta military troops and police officers raided two online scam centers in Muse: one located between No. 1 and 2 streets in Swam Saw ward, and another in Ho Nar ward.
“These centers didn’t regularly pay bribes to the junta forces. Of course, those cunning police won’t arrest if they get paid well. This operation is led by the district police chief and ordered by the military’s division commander,” a source close to regime officials told Shwe Phee Myay.
The junta’s forces will deport the arrested Chinese citizens via the Nantaw border crossing and charge Myanmar citizens under the Electronic Law, sources said.
In 2023, the junta’s military and police arrested over 1,000 Chinese citizens working at scam compounds in Muse. Additionally, in 2024, they arrested around 700 Chinese citizens in Muse for involvement in scam operations; all were deported to China, according to junta statements.
