The Myanmar junta handed over 71 Chinese scam operators to China and the handover took place at a border checkpoint in Mongla, a town on the border with China in eastern Shan State, according to the statement of the National Democratic Alliance Army (NDAA) on Thursday.
The NDAA, also known as the Mongla Army, controls the city of Mongla and its surrounding area. The ethnic armed group broke away from the Communist Party of Burma (CPB) in 1989 and has maintained a ceasefire with the military junta ever since.
According to a statement, the junta’s immigration office in Kengtung handed over 71 Chinese scam operators to Chinese authorities on Wednesday at the Mongla-Daluo border gate. The NDAA said it helped facilitate the smooth handover.
This cooperation is described to reflect the system of cooperation between the NDAA Special Region (4), the junta’s regime, and China on border affairs. It also reportedly strengthens mutual trust in law enforcement and security sectors for both sides, said NDAA statement.
