The junta’s regime announced the arrest of 88 individuals involved in online scam operations in Muse, a town on the China-Myanmar border in northern Shan State on June 13.
According to the statement, troops raided a house in Kaung Mhu Lwe Ward during the afternoon and detained 17 Chinese nationals, 34 Myanmar men, and 37 Myanmar women allegedly engaged in scam activities.
In addition, the junta reported that another arrest in Muse, detaining six Chinese nationals involved in online scam operations at a house in Kaung Mhu Ton Ward.
Despite ongoing raids targeting scam centers, residents say such operations continue to exist in the town. One local man told Shwe Phee Myay that because authorities themselves are involved, it is impossible to fully suppress the scam networks.
“When scam operators are about to be arrested, they are usually tipped off first. Only then do the troops make a show of raiding. Even now, there are still many scam centers left in Muse. I’ve seen acquaintances working as couriers for those involved in scams,” said local resident said.
On May 28, junta troops raided a scam center in Swam Saw Ward, Muse, arresting five Chinese nationals and 23 Myanmar citizens.
Observers note that since late 2025, under pressure from China, the junta’s military and police forces have stepped up raids against online scam syndicates operating along the northern Shan State and Thai–Myanmar border.
