Lway Htwe, May 26, Muse
Muse, a junta-controlled township on the Chinese border, has seen another armed robbery amid escalating crimes, as a group of armed men robbed a woman pedestrian on Swam Saw street in Shwe Thamin Kyatthit ward, according to the residents.
At approximately 9 a.m. on May 24, a group of armed men in a vehicle stopped a woman walking on Swam Saw No. 1 Street in Shwe Thamin Kwatthit ward. Residents reported they covered her mouth, pointed weapons at her chest, and robbed her purse, mobile phone, and pieces of gold jewelry.
“It happened on our street; she was on her way to the market,” said a female resident of Shwe Thamin Kwatthit ward.
“Witnesses said the robbers, who arrived in a car, spoke both Burmese and Chinese. The woman initially shouted, then they covered her mouth and aimed guns at her.”
The precise value of the robbed valuables has not been determined by the sources.
In Muse, under the junta’s control, residents say crime is soaring. They point to a rise in drug users and gambling dens, alongside frequent violent crimes such as theft, robbery, and kidnapping. However, the junta regime’s officers have been unable to apprehend most of the criminals or effectively act in any of these recent cases.
In Muse, a series of robberies have occurred recently. On May 19, a police officer was robbed of an electronic motorbike, two mobile phones, and a wallet by a young man. Then, on May 21, five men robbed a gold and jewelry shop in the market ward; only two were arrested the next day, with three still at large.
Additionally, in early May, a young woman from Ho Nar ward was abducted by three Chinese-speaking men while returning home from the market. She was released on May 18 after her family paid a 10 million kyats ransom to the kidnappers.
