A junta military airstrike on Thone Sal village, Nawnghkio Township, northern Shan State, controlled by the Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA), left five people with severe injuries, according to the residents.

At approximately 3:40 p.m. on May 14, a junta military fighter jet dropped two 250 lb bombs on Thone Sal village, wounding five male villagers in the explosions.

“The fighter jet flew over Thone Sal village twice and dropped the bombs. There are no reports of fatalities yet, but five men were severely injured,” a male resident in Nawnghkio told Shwe Phee Myay.

He added that the junta’s airstrike destroyed some houses and that a TNLA personnel was among those injured.

In Nawnghkio, clashes between the junta’s military and the TNLA are erupting almost daily around Tawnghkam village, where the junta’s artillery battalion headquarters is located, and in Ohmmati village.

Following an unsuccessful China-brokered dialogue in Kunming at the end of April, the junta’s military has continuously launched artillery and airstrikes into TNLA-controlled Kyaukme, Manton, Mogok, and Mongngawt towns, resulting in civilian casualties.

On May 13, the junta’s military launched an airstrike using a fighter jet on the TNLA-controlled towns of Nawnghkio and Mogok, damaging some houses and buildings.

Although the junta’s military council announced a ceasefire until the end of May, it continues to launch attacks on TNLA-controlled areas using drones, airstrikes, and artillery shelling. Consequently, the TNLA has warned residents in these areas to remain alert and conflict-aware.
