The Wa State judiciary committee under the United Wa State Army (UWSA) stated on Sunday that it will begin taking action against the police officers who abuse their power and that the police force members must carry their employment identification cards while performing their duties.
The committee said that is a part of the ‘Public Supervision and Monitoring System’ which has been established in accordance with the decision of the Party’s Committee of the Wa State Legal Administration.
It is stated that these changes are aimed at making the law enforcement operations of police force members more systematic, implementing a public-serving law enforcement policy, and enhancing the public’s trust and satisfaction in law enforcement.
Therefore, it is mentioned that members of the public can file complaints if police officers engage in misconduct, such as failing to enforce the law, acting unfairly, abusing their power, or exploiting legal loopholes for personal gain.
Furthermore, it is highlighted that police officers must display their employment identification cards while discharging their law enforcement duties; failure to do so will be treated as a violation of law enforcement regulations. It is also noted that when filing a complaint, citizens need to provide the identification card number of the accused police officer.
It is further reiterated that if the legal property, dignity, or other legal rights of the public are violated or harmed, the Wa State judiciary committee will by no means ignore it and will investigate and take action.
On June 6, the United Wa State Party/Army (UWSP/UWSA) made changes among the top officials of the Wa State Police (WSP), and reshuffled the appointment of a person named “Yang Phyin” as the joint supervisor/administrator of the police department.
