The Wa State judiciary committee under the United Wa State Army (UWSA) announced that they busted a ring planning to operate an online scam business in the territory controlled by the armed group, and managed to rescue 62 individuals who had been detained, trafficked, and forced to work in the cyber-scam operations.

It is stated that after being cracked down upon in neighboring countries, this cyber-scam ring secretly relocated into the “Wa” region and planned to continue running its online scam operations.

According to China’s intelligence sharing and the verification from the Wa State judiciary Committee’s investigation, they were also able to uncover the syndicate’s initial activities as well as its plans to relocate to a third region.

It is stated that after conducting a continuous surveillance operation on this ring for dozens of hours, authorities intercepted and busted them at a border location. Those involved in the case were taken into custody, and 62 individuals who were trapped inside the cyber-scam ring were successfully rescued.

The statement released yesterday, read that the 62 rescued cyber-scam workers were transferred to China via the Pangkham City-Menglian border gate, and that the public needs to not believe in scams claiming “you can easily earn tens of thousands of yuan a month.”
