The Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army (MNDAA) punished one of its members by hanging him with his hands tied behind his back and beating him for committing an armed gold robbery in a village in Tarmoenye region in Kutkai Township, northern Shan State, according to the residents.
The robbery took place on April 30 in Shauk Haw Village, Tarmoenye, where an MNDAA member allegedly targeted a local woman, said a man familiar with the incident.
“It happened in the Lung Htan and Shauk Haw area. People are saying an MNDAA soldier stole some items. It was essentially an armed robbery targeting an elderly woman; he snatched her gold necklace. That is why the MNDAA punished him by beating him. The elderly woman also sustained minor injuries during the incident,” he said.
While locals informed Shwe Phee Myay that the soldier was beaten for the robbery, the news outlet is still investigating the full details and the aftermath of the situation.
A video showing MNDAA members severely beating the soldier—who was tied with his hands behind his back to a house and a stone pillar along the roadside within the village—began circulating on social media on the evening of April 30.
