The junta troops are entering and looting the uninhabited houses of Ta’ang ethnic people on Peace Hill Ward in Kyaukme, a township in northern Shan State now back under their control, according to sources on the ground.
According to a local resident who spoke to Shwe Phee Myay, the junta’s military troops have been entering the houses where the Ta’ang people when they fled the town, since November 12, seizing household items and furniture.
“They’re breaking into locked houses and taking furniture and household goods. They don’t enter homes if people are inside. Most of the targeted homes belong to Ta’ang families, though a few belong to other ethnic groups,” he explained.
He added that junta troops continue to seal off homes and arrest residents under the pretext of alleged links to the Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA); according to a list obtained by Shwe Phee Myay, at least five locals have been detained and more than ten homes sealed off in Kyaukme Town.
The junta’s military regained control of Kyaukme—which was previously held by the TNLA—on October 1. In Hsipaw, which is also back under junta control, its military troops have reportedly sealed off more than 40 homes and detained several residents, according to the residents who spoke to Shwe Phee Myay.
