Residents of Mai Seik Village in Namtu—a township controlled by the Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA) in northern Shan State—told Shwe Phee Myay that most of their paddy fields and cultivated crops have been destroyed by flooding.
They reported that continuous rainfall since November 1 caused the Mai Seik Creek to overflow, submerging farmland near the creek and devastating local agriculture.
The flooding in Mai Seik Village has caused extensive damage to local livelihoods. A resident informed Shwe Phee Myay that a shop near the creek was also submerged in addition to the agricultural damage.
“Altogether, 29 homes with cultivated plots have been completely destroyed. The crops were meant for sale, but everything was swept away by the floodwaters. The losses are severe,” he detailed the severe impact.
Mai Seik Village is located along the Namtu–Mai Baw road. While water levels slightly receded today, the road remains impassable for cars and motorcycles due to heavy mud and debris coverage.
A motorcyclist told Shwe Phyi Myay that local residents are using stretchers and improvised carriers to transport motorcycles across the impassable road, charging up to 40,000 kyats per vehicle.
People are urging relevant organizations to help repair the damaged road.
Continuous rainfall since November 1 has caused flooding not only in Namtu Township, northern Shan State, but also in Namhpatkar Village of Kutkai Township, where paddy fields have been inundated and damaged.
