Shwe Phee Myay, Oct 7, Namtu
The junta’s military bombed Namtu Town again today, at around 6:30 a.m., using a fighter jet and the attack directly struck the Pobbar Yone Monastery, destrorying all its buildings.
“The monks fled since the bombing of Namtu first started, so they are not here anymore. Almost all the monastery buildings are destroyed,” a resident said.
The attack marks the third consecutive bombing by the junta’s military on Namtu Town despite no active fighting in the area. As a result, residents are fleeing and taking refuge in safer locations.
The violence is part of an ongoing spree: On October 2 at around 7:15 a.m., the junta’s military launched an airstrike on a densely populated residential area in Ward (8) of Namtu Town, killing 4 people and injuring 6.
Just recently, on October 6, another bombing attack struck Namtu’s downtown area, damaging at least 10 houses.
