Fighting continues to intensify as junta troops press their offensive on Kyaukme, a township controlled by the Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA) in northern Shan State, frontline sources told Shwe Phee Myay.
Intense fighting is ongoing at the junction past Ping Tain Village, on the road to Upper Ye Ywar Village. On Thursday evening, the junta conducted an airstrike on Zee Bin Village.
The junta followed up with a bombing run on the battle sites, using a Y-12 aircraft at around 1:30 p.m. on Friday.
“The junta is suffering heavy casualties. That’s why they are continuously dropping bombs from aircraft, including a Y-12 that is active now. Despite the airstrikes, the junta has not yet reached Khai Taung Hkaung village,” a frontline source told Shwe Phee Myay on Friday.
According to frontline sources, the TNLA has lost Nawng Ping and Ping Tain villages but is still mounting a multi-layered defense against the junta’s offensive, with the fighting expected to intensify further.
To reach Kyaukme town, junta troops must first pass through villages such as Khike Tone Hone, Nar Aik Khant, Sakhan Tha, and Khomong.
The junta’s offensive began on August 19, when its troops crossed the Goke Hteik stream near Nawnghkio. The attack was launched from Htantabin Village, targeting Nawng Pein Village, which is controlled by the Shan State Progress Party (SSPP).
