The Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army (MNDAA) has provided financial assistance to residents whose homes were damaged or destroyed during the fighting to seize Hsenwi Township in northern Shan State, now under MNDAA control, according to local residents.

The MNDAA is distributing 1,000 to 6,000 Yuan to each affected household, with the amount depending on the level of damage, particularly from artillery shells used during the first phase of Operation 1027.

“They have collected the data for a long time. And they provide depending on the levels of damage. They provided the funds on July 8 and 13. They provide funds for houses damaged by one-third of the building, and by half of the building, then totally destroyed ones. They provide at least 1,000 Yuan. For the homes totally destroyed, they provide 5,000 to 6,000 Yuan,” said a resident.

The Hsenwi Township’s administrative office is also conducting separate field surveys and providing funds to families who lost their houses in the conflict.

A woman in Hsenwi explained the meticulous approach to aid distribution: “They don’t provide the funds only at one place; instead, they provided by separating at least three places. They also invited people to come to the township’s administration office. Especially, they are worried if some people receive funds while others don’t, as happened in Lashio.”

The MNDAA has provided financial support for 424 houses and school buildings damaged in Hsenwi Township, according to a statement released by the ethnic armed group.

Despite reports suggesting the MNDAA might hand Hsenwi Town back to the Myanmar junta, neither the armed group nor the junta regime has released any official statement on the matter.
