The Ta’ang National Party (TNP) has released a statement objecting to the upcoming general election planned by the junta’s military council, following its central executive committee meeting.
Condemning the junta’s inhumane acts and crimes against civilians, the TNP urged the international community to take immediate action against the Myanmar military regime.
During its bi-annual meeting, members of the TNP’s Central Executive Committee discussed Myanmar’s current political situation. The party’s statement also highlighted that the junta’s recently held token “Peace Forum” failed to resolve any conflicts in the country.
Mai Naing Gawng Jarr, the General Secretary of TNP, said that this election cannot be genuine, nor can it be truly free and fair and the junta’s plan to hold the election in phases highlights that it is not trustworthy at all.
He said that they also saw the ASEAN has pointed out the weaknesses of junta-planned elections and therefore, what he perceives is that the election is utterly unimportant for Myanmar.
“The important thing for Myanmar at this moment is to stop the fighting as soon as possible, for the Myanmar military to withdraw itself from the country’s political process immediately, and to state that it will face all charges for the crimes it committed against its own people,” he said.
The TNP’s bi-annual Central Executive Committee meeting was held on June 27 and 29, with a total of 60 attendees, including committee members and observers.
The Ta’ang Political Consultative Committee (TPCC) reorganized in June to form the Ta’ang Land Council (TLC), now established as the highest political governing body within Ta’ang territories. The TNP is set to coordinate the TLC’s implementation of the “Ta’ang Revolutionary Government Plan.”
The TNP, in its statement, also affirmed its resolve to collaborate with the populace in dismantling the dictatorship system, Myanmar’s common enemy, and in pursuing the ultimate goal of establishing a new federal democracy.
The TNP party won six seats in the 2010 election and 12 seats in the 2015 election. In the 2020 election, it also won 12 seats, ranking fifth nationwide among political parties in Myanmar based on their winning rate.
