Poe Labar, Jul 9, Muse (105th Mile)
The Brotherhood Alliance has opened a new public hospital in Muse Township’s 105th Mile Border Trade Zone, located in northern Shan State on the border with China, according to the residents.
The Brotherhood Alliance, comprising the Arakan Army (AA), the Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army (MNDAA), and the Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA), began constructing a new hospital in May. The hospital, named Mong Yu (105) Mile Hospital, held its opening ceremony on Tuesday.
“This is the first-ever hospital in the 105th Mile zone. Under the previous junta’s regime, there were only large clinics. But now, the Brotherhood Alliance spearheaded its establishment. Construction took three months, and they just opened it yesterday. Community leaders, elders, and residents attended the opening,” a resident explained.
He added that residents in and around the 105th Mile area previously relied solely on clinics, as there was no hospital. For emergencies, patients had to be transported to public hospitals in Muse and Namhkam townships for treatment.
A resident confirmed that the new hospital offers 24-hour services including blood tests and ultrasounds.
They added that “most practitioners who participated in the Civil Disobedience Movement are also joining the hospital to provide healthcare services.”
The Brotherhood Alliance seized Muse’s 105th Mile area on December 14, 2023.
Although most parts of Muse Township remain under the control of the junta’s military, the 105-Mile Border Trade Zone—one of Myanmar’s busiest and major trade points with China—is controlled by the ethnic armed alliance.
