Shwe Phee Myay, June 5
The junta’s artillery, airstrikes and drone attacks in Nawnghkio, Kyaukme, Mongngawt, Monglon, and Manton townships in northern Shan State, and Mogok, Mandalay Region—all areas controlled by the Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA)—killed at least 8 and injured 18 civilians within a month, according to the ethnic armed group’s statement.
In TNLA-controlled Nawnghkio Township, the junta launched 12 airstrikes, fired 776 artillery shells, and dropped 329 bombs and 144 poison bombs via drones in May.
In Nawnghkio Township alone, the junta’s artillery and airstrikes killed 6 civilians and injured 14 others, while also destroying 8 houses.
Additionally, the junta dropped two bombs on Kyaukme using its fighter jet. In Mogok, it dropped bombs six times, killing one civilian and injuring another. These attacks destroyed a monastery and 17 houses in Mogok.
In Manton, the junta launched airstrikes, dropping two bombs, which killed one civilian and injured three others.
As the junta’s military continues to launch artillery and airstrikes in these areas, Lway Yay Oo, spokesperson for the PSLF/TNLA, warned residents via a May 29 interview with Shwe Phee Myay, to be aware of the conflict’s serious hazards.
Although the junta’s regime announced temporary ceasefires since April, citing the earthquake, it has continued launching airstrikes throughout the country, resulting in civilian casualties that are still rising.
