Papa, May 18, Lashio
Two novice monks from Ouak Padaung Village, Namhsan Township, who were residing at the monastery of Dr. Ashin Vijayasara in Lashio, northern Shan State, have been missing for three months, according to the fathers of the monks.
The parents stated that they had lost contact with the two young novice monks for a long time. It was only when they went to inquire at the Dr. Ashin Vijayasara Monastery—located in Ward 10, Zone 9 of Lashio—on May 9, that they learned from the abbot that the boys were missing.
“The monastery didn’t inform us when they first went missing, and we didn’t think to ask either,” the father said.
The father recounted the abbot’s explanation, noting that the two missing novices are 14-year-old Mai San Nyein and 10-year-old Mai Aung Chan Thar, and that they had reportedly run away back in March.
The father has requested that anyone who spots the two young novice monks contact the family immediately.
Meanwhile, locals alleged that during the first week of May, the MNDAA forced novice monks in some villages outside of Lashio to disrobe and enter military service. However, Shwe Phee Myay News Agency has not been able to independently verify these claims.
