Mai Pome Sange, Dec 13, Mogok

The junta’s military troops stationed at a checkpoint reportedly detained three Lisu ethnic residents from Pein Pyit Village in Mogok, a township regained control by the junta’s military in Mandalay Region, according to a source close to the families.

The incident occurred on December 2, when U Thein Lay (53), U Si Mee (45), and Maung Zi See (22) were arrested on their way back to Pein Pyit after shopping in Mogok town.

“Our family members were arrested in Mogok by the military. We don’t know the reason, where they were taken, or whether they are still alive. They are honest Lisu people,” said a relative of a victim.

The detained individuals are not affiliated with any organizations or political movements but are ordinary working villagers, the source added.

Community elders attempted to appeal to the junta troops regarding the arrest of the three men, but they were denied access. Instead, they were reportedly insulted, cursed at, and sent away.

Junta forces re-entered Mogok town on November 29, after the area was retaken from the Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA) through mediation by China.

Just three days after re-entering Mogok, on December 2, junta’s military troops arrested those three villagers on suspicion.
