The junta’s military is continuously launching airstrikes into Momeik—a township controlled by the Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA) in northern Shan State—and Thabeikkyin Township in Mandalay Region, according to the residents.
At around 12:30 p.m. today, the junta used a fighter jet to drop a 500lb bomb and a 250lb bomb on Auk Magyi and Myitsone Villages in Momeik.
Similarly, also at around 10:00 a.m. today, a junta aircraft dropped a 250lb bomb on Kyauk Hpyu Village in Thabeikkyin Township.
“They just came and dropped bombs a while ago. They dropped them on Myitsone Village as well… There was no fighting going on in these villages,” said a Momeik resident, who noted that the military also dropped bombs on the Auk Magyi side too.
The airstrikes resulted in no human casualties, but one house in Auk Magyi Village in Momeik and one house in Kyauk Hpyu Village in Thabeikkyin were hit and damaged by the bombs.
Just days earlier, on October 24, junta launched an airstrike on Yin Khat Pin Village in Thabeikkyin Township, instantly killing 3 residents and injuring at least 13 others.
In northern Shan State, the junta’s military has been continuously launching airstrikes into remaining TNLA-controlled townships, causing civilian deaths and extensive damage to houses.
The attacks continued recently; at around 5 p.m. on October 25, the junta dropped at least five bombs via drones into Manli Village, Namtu Township, burning down several houses.
According to figures compiled by Shwe Phee Myay, sustained aerial bombardments by the junta’s military on TNLA-controlled areas from October 1 to October 22 have killed 47 people—including 9 children—and injured 49 others, including 11 children.
