Mai Rupa, Oct 20, Hsipaw
Following the junta’s recapture of Hsipaw Town, its troops have advanced as far as the Light Infantry Battalion (LIB) 23 base along the Hsipaw–Namtu Road, according to ground sources.
As of Saturday, junta troops reportedly remain stationed at their former Light Infantry Battalions 503 and 504, where fighters from the Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA) had previously been present.
A frontline source told Shwe Phee Myay that, “Since Saturday, the junta’s military reached the LIB 23 base, but the TNLA is still present at Infantry Battalions 503 and 504. Junta forces have not been able to advance further yet.”
Additionally, the pro-junta propaganda Telegram channels are claiming that the Moe Tay Bridge, which connects Namtu and Hsipaw Townships, has been destroyed. However, Shwe Phee Myay has not yet been able to independently verify this claim.
The junta’s military launched an offensive to retake Hsipaw Town beginning in the first week of October, and after more than two weeks, they regained control of the town on Saturday.
Following the TNLA’s loss of Hsipaw Town, the junta has now regained control of the Mandalay–Lashio Union Highway.
