Myanmar junta forces have regained control of most areas in Hsipaw Township, northern Shan State—previously held by the Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA)—while clashes continue to erupt on the outskirts, according to the residents.

Junta troops were able to regain control of most areas of Hsipaw Town today, and the sound of shooting continues to be heard at the junta’s former Light Infantry Battalion (LIB) 503 and 504 bases, which are located outside the town on the Hsipaw-Namtu Road.

“We no longer hear gunfire from inside the town—the sounds are gradually fading. But heavy artillery fire can still be heard near the 503 and 504 bases,” a Hsipaw resident told Shwe Phee Myay.

Meanwhile, photos of junta troops being welcomed in downtown Hsipaw were circulated this afternoon on pro-junta Telegram channels as propaganda.

However, the TNLA hasn’t yet released any official statement regarding the situation in Hsipaw.

Junta troops have launched an offensive to retake Hsipaw in the first week of October and succeeded in regaining control of the town after more than two weeks of fighting.
