Shwe Phee Myay, June 12, Namhkam
The United Wa State Army (UWSA) has donated 600 million kyats to support rehabilitation efforts in Kaung Tat Village, located in northern Shan State’s Namhkam Township controlled by the Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA).
The donation was finalized on Friday. A day earlier, the Mon National Liberation Army’s Anti-Dictatorship/Ramonnya Mon Army (NMSP-AD/RMA) contributed 30 million kyats toward the recovery of Kaung Tat Village, alongside medical aid and relief supplies provided by the Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army (MNDAA) and the Mong La Health Committee.
Additional contributions have flowed in from various ethnic armed organizations. The Kachin Independence Organization/Kachin Independence Army (KIO/KIA) donated 55 million kyats, while the liaison office of UWSA in Lashio contributed 10 million kyats.
Moreover, the Shan State Progress Party (SSPP) provided 20 bags of rice alongside 10 million kyats. A diverse coalition of local and diaspora communities—including Ta’ang, Kachin, Shan, Chinese, Kho Lone Lishaw, and Bamar groups—have also sent financial support to aid the recovery of Kaung Tat Village.
Meanwhile, the Kaung Tat Village Rehabilitation Committee announced that its dedicated donation reception center will close on June 15. Following the closure, prospective donors can still channel aid by coordinating directly with the committee, contacting its leadership, or delivering supplies directly to affected families.
As of June 11, the Kaung Tat Village Rehabilitation Committee has raised over 887 million kyats and over 40,000 Yuan in donation funds following the recent deadly blast.
The disaster occurred on May 31, when a gelignite explosive depot belonging to the TNLA exploded. The blast claimed the lives of 41 local residents and injured 154 others. Additionally, the explosion damaged or destroyed 680 homes, including more than 40 houses that were completely incinerated.
