Trade has increased at the Kyinsankyawt Border Gate, part of the 105th China-Myanmar Border Trade Zone controlled by the Brotherhood Alliance in Muse Township, northern Shan State, according to the traders.
China has commenced allowing the import of food commodities into Myanmar via the Kyinsankyawt gate, simultaneously enabling Myanmar traders to export maize, sugarcane, wood charcoal, and firewood. Conversely, China maintains restrictions on Myanmar traders’ importation of mechanical products.
“Trading is happening more now than in previous months. Goods are coming from the China side into Myanmar, except for mechanical products,” a trader in 105th Mile told Shwe Phee Myay.
China opened trade through the Brotherhood Alliance-controlled Kyinsankyawt Gate in March, but trade volumes were low during those months and have only surged starting this month.
In the second week of this month, the Brotherhood Alliance announced it will launch an online taxation system in July at the Kyinsankyawt border checkpoint.
Traders anticipate faster customs at the China-Myanmar border as the Brotherhood Alliance implements an online taxation system.
His new system, which will also include online vehicle registration, aims to streamline import/export duties for increased cargo traffic. While details on specific tax rates are pending, traders expect greater efficiency.
Although most parts of Muse Township remain under the control of the junta’s military, the 105-Mile Border Trade Zone—one of Myanmar’s busiest and major trade points with China—is controlled by the ethnic armed alliance.
Brotherhood Alliance, comprised of the Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army, Ta’ang National Liberation Army, and Arakan Army, seized many major towns in northern Shan State during its famous Operation 1027.
