Led by the All Burma Youth Poets’ Union (ABYPU) and All Burma Federation of Student Unions – Northern Shan (ABFSU-NS), a memorial ceremony was held on Saturday, in Kutkai and Namhkam Townships to mark the 5th anniversary of poet Khet Thi’s death.
During the ceremony, participants recited poems by Khet Thi to honor his memory, according to poet Ko Yin Wai Htet.
“We recited Ko Khet Thi’s poems in both Kutkai and Namkham. We also held discussions reflecting on what his role might have been within the current political landscape if he were still with us today,” he said.
In Kutkai Township, the event was attended by several poets, including Ko Nyein Chan (Tada-U), Ko Myat Min Ein, Ko Brang Li Aung, Ko San Maung, Thayut Thee (Yenangyaung), TAL, Haung Haung, and other revolutionary poetry enthusiasts.
In Namkham Township, poets Hsu Khet, Yin Wai Htet, Ma Gam, Wai Yan Tara, and female poet Thae Lun Thu joined together for the poetry recital.
Poet Khet Thi was arrested by junta’s military forces at his home in Shwebo Township, Sagaing Region, around 9:00 p.m. on May 8, 2021. He passed away on the morning of May 9 after being subjected to brutal torture during interrogation.
