The flag of the Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army (MNDAA) continues to fly at its offices in Monekoe Town, Muse Township, northern Shan State, and the group maintains its administration in the area, according to residents.
“MNDAA’s offices are still running as normal. The news about its flag changing was fake. I’m still here in town,” said a woman living in Monekoe.
The MNDAA is also continuing its plans to issue residential registration cards and is overseeing educational and healthcare services in Monekoe Town.
Today, false reports circulated online claiming that MNDAA flags had been removed from departmental offices in Monekoe and replaced with Myanmar national flags.
Monekoe was seized by the MNDAA during the first phase of Operation 1027 and is a town with informal border trading posts with China.
Meanwhile, unverified reports suggest the MNDAA might hand Hsenwi Township back to the junta in September. Shwe Phee Myay could not confirm these claims.
Following a Chinese-brokered ceasefire agreement with the junta’s military council, the MNDAA withdrew its troops from Lashio on April 21, allowing the junta to regain control of the town.
