The junta’s airstrike into a crowded area in Kyaukme Town, northern Shan State, on Tuesday killed at least 4 people, including a mother and her son, and injured 14 others, including displaced people from Nawnghkio, according to residents.
A junta aircraft dropped two bombs into a crowded area in Kyaukme on Tuesday around 5 p.m., near a mosque and a fried rice shop. The attack killed Daw Hla Yee (60), Waw Waw a.k.a Thiha Naing (22), Daw Hla Hla Htwe (53), and Daw Hla Tin (55).
Those killed by the junta’s airstrike include the owner of the fried rice shop and her son, along with two other women who were displaced from Nawnghkio.
“A family living behind the mosque was also severely injured. A 5-month-old child sustained a head injury, and both of his parents were severely injured as well,” said a resident who witnessed the incident.
Of the 14 injured, seven are women, including a 5-year-old child and a 60-year-old woman.
On May 5, the junta’s military also dropped two bombs into Kyaukme Town with a fighter jet.
Kyaukme, one of the townships controlled by the Ta’ang National Liberation Army in northern Shan State, is a sanctuary for over a thousand residents who have fled Nawnghkio Township, where the junta’s military and the ethnic armed group are currently engaged in intense clashes.
Also, on Tuesday morning, the junta’s military continued to drop bombs around Lon Wal village in Nawnghkio Township, reportedly due to severe ground losses.
