Mai Rupa, Nov 20, Lashio
The junta’s regime plans to reopen the Lashio University in Lashio, the capital of northern Shan State which it retook control, according to the residents.
A resident told Shwe Phee Myay that the student registration began on November 17, with the university scheduled to reopen on November 24.
“Lashio University will reopen soon. Repairs are underway in the damaged areas, and the reopening date has been posted at both eastern and western gates of the campus,” he said.
Universities in Lashio have remained closed since the onset of the second phase of Operation 1027. Many campus buildings sustained damage from artillery shelling during the clashes between the Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army (MNDAA) and the junta’s military.
Preparations to reopen the university in Lashio come more than seven months after the junta’s military regained control of the city—previously held by the MNDAA—at the end of April, following the intervention of China.
