Clashes are intensifying in Nawnghkio Township, northern Shan State, between the junta’s military and the Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA), according to frontline sources.

One junta military unit, advancing its offensive through Tawnghkam Village, has arrived within 6 km of Nawnghkio Town, near Myat Chin Nu. Another unit, which launched its offensive through Ohmmati Village, is now approaching Kyauk Kyan Village.

“The clashes are escalating every day, but the junta troops haven’t been able to enter the town yet,” reported a frontline source.

Despite this, pro-junta lobbyists are spreading false information on their Telegram propaganda channels, claiming that junta troops have already penetrated Nawnghkio Town.

As clashes draw closer to Nawnghkio Town, residents in nearby villages are now fleeing.

For approximately five months, the junta’s military has been launching offensives with two massively organized units, attempting to retake Nawnghkio Township. However, they have been unable to break through the resistance of the TNLA and allied forces.

During Operation 1027, the TNLA and allied forces seized Missile Battalion 606, Light Infantry Battalion 114, and 115 bases, taking control of the entire Nawnghkio Township on July 30, 2024.

Speaking at the press conference on July 5, Lway Yay Oo, the TNLA spokesperson, stated that their armed group would defend Nawnghkio, one of their controlled townships in northern Shan State, from being seized by the junta’s military amidst its intense offensives.
