A police officer stationed at Sin Phyu Gate, a border crossing in junta-controlled Muse Township, northern Shan State, was robbed of his electronic motorbike, two mobile phones, and a wallet, according to the residents.
At around 2 p.m. on May 19, a young man, approximately 20 years old, stopped Police Officer Win Ko as he returned to his station from Sin Phyu Gate, robbing him of all his belongings.
“At first, we thought they knew each other and were just talking,” said a girl who witnessed the incident.
“We even saw the police officer hand his phone to the young man. No one suspected a robbery since the police was in uniform, but we only realized it when the young robber rode off on the motorcycle and the officer stared yelling ‘Help! Help!'”
She admitted to feeling no pity for the junta’s police officer, but rather, found it quite hilarious.
In early May, a young woman residing in Ho Nar ward was abducted by a group of three Chinese-speaking men while she was returning home from the market. She was released on May 18 as her family paid the ransom to kidnappers.
The victim later revealed to Shwe Pyee Myay that the kidnappers were in militia uniforms, however, she couldn’t identify their specific group. Muse, notably, is home to numerous militia groups loyal to the junta’s military.
Residents in Muse, the border town adjacent to China’s Ruili, report a surge in violent crimes including kidnapping, murder, and robberies. However, the junta regime’s officers have been unable to apprehend criminals or effectively act in any of these recent cases.
