A junta military unit, comprising over a thousand troops, has reached Myat Chin Nu Village in Nawnghkio, a Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA)-controlled township in northern Shan State and the unit is now launching an offensive to retake the Missile Battalion 606 headquarters, according to frontline sources.

Upon reaching Myat Chin Nu on June 30, the junta military commenced an assault on TNLA troops holding positions in the junta’s former Missile Battalion headquarters, situated 3 km from the village.

“Junta troops are attempting to enter the Missile Battalion 606 base, but they have only been able to take up positions in Myat Chin Nu so far,” a source said.

On the evening of July 1, the junta military launched two airstrikes on Myat Chin Nu, where clashes between junta troops and the TNLA are ongoing.

An additional junta unit, currently engaged in an offensive around Ohmmti Village, has now reached the village.

The junta military is deploying massive forces in an offensive through Tawnghkam and Ohmmti villages, aiming to retake Nawnghkio Township. Concurrently, the TNLA is mounting strong resistance to prevent its loss of the township.

During Operation 1027, the TNLA and allied forces seized Missile Battalion 606, Light Infantry Battalion 114, and 115 bases, taking control of the entire Nawnghkio on July 10, 2024.
