Shwe Phee Myay, Aug 16, Mogok
The junta military’s airstrikes killed at least 39 civilians over the past two weeks in Mogok, a township controlled by the Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA) in Mandalay Region.
On August 2, 9, and 14, the junta’s military launched airstrikes on Mogok, targeting civilian areas.
Mogok, known as Myanmar’s “Ruby Land” for its abundant gemstones, is located 189 kilometers north of Mandalay. The TNLA and allied resistance forces seized the town in July 2024.
However, after the junta’s military retook control of Nawnghkio last month, ground troops have been advancing toward Mogok. Clashes continue to break out between TNLA and junta forces along the route between the two towns.
Junta airstrikes in Mogok killed 39 residents and injured 13. Within the same two-week period, the junta also conducted four additional airstrikes in other TNLA-controlled areas of northern Shan State.
The military launched these strikes on the TNLA-controlled towns of Kyaukme and Hsipaw, as well as on Nawnghkio, which the junta recaptured from the TNLA last month.
According to data from Shwe Phee Myay, the August 1, 3, and 4 airstrikes on Nawnghkio, Kyaukme, and Hsipaw killed at least one civilian and injured five others.
Junta airstrikes in TNLA-controlled areas killed at least 56 civilians between June and August 13, according to the Ta’ang Civil Society Organization (TCSO).
The TCSO condemned these junta’s airstrikes, pointing out that some of the strikes targeted crowded urban areas.
The organization stated that the attacks were carried out under the guise of the junta’s efforts to regain control of the towns and hold general elections.
