A junta artillery shelling killed a couple in Mat Man Kone Thar Village, Nar Aik Khant Village Tract, Kyaukme, a township controlled by the Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA) in northern Shan State, according to the residents.
At around 10 p.m. on September 4, a junta artillery shelling killed a couple in Mat Man Kone Thar: U War Yama and Daw Hla Khin, both of whom were in their 40s.
“They had been fleeing into the jungle, but that day, they came back to the village for some food, believing it was a bit quieter. They were sleeping at their home when the artillery shell hit them directly, and they were both killed. Their daughter and son-in-law were fortunate that they were not hit,” a villager told Shwe Phee Myay.
Mat Man Kone Thar is located near Nawng Pein Village, where clashes between the junta’s military and the TNLA are intensifying. As a result, nearly all of the village’s residents are still forced to flee into the jungle.
Clashes are intensifying between the junta’s military and the TNLA in Nawng Pein and Pin Tein villages. According to frontline sources, the junta’s military is also launching airstrikes in these areas, including by dropping poisonous bombs.
The fighting between the junta and the TNLA has lasted for more than three weeks in and around Nawng Pein, causing thousands of people to flee.
