Female Village Head Leads Effort for Peaceful Coexistence
In this patriarchy-dominated rural region, appointing a woman as village head is rare.
However, Daw Shwe Pwint has held that position in her village for over two decades.
Daw Shwe Pwint, 63-year-old, is a resident of Kone Sone Village in Hsipaw Township, which is home to various ethnic groups. She is the first-ever woman who began serving as the village head of Kone Sone since 2003.
Prior to becoming Village Head, she served for six years as a youth leader and as the assistant to the former Village Head, who was her father. Following his passing, Daw Shwe Pwint was handed the Chairwoman position for the village administration.
