Lway June Moe, Jun 27, Momeik
The Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA) will resolve its issues with the Shan State Progress Party (SSPP) through alliance dialogues, according to TNLA spokesperson Lway Yay Oo.
Before this announcement, the TNLA had released a statement alleging that SSPP troops attacked their unit advancing in Moe Hauk Village Tract, Momeik Township, northern Shan State, on June 23. However, the SSPP has denied the accusation in its own statement.
Another TNLA statement claimed that two trucks carrying 46 troops from SSPP’s Battalion 208, Brigade 729, opened fire after passing a TNLA checkpoint near Man Pun Village, Mongngawt Township, on June 24.
TNLA spokesperson Lway Yay Oo commented to Shwe Phee Myay regarding the recent encounters with their allied SSPP forces.
“We’ve had frequent frictions with the SSPP these days. In these encounters, the SSPP has opened fire first. Including today’s incident, we’ve had three encounters this month. SSPP forces opened fire on one of our units advancing in the Moe Hauk area of Momeik, and they have also been shooting at our checkpoints and guarding posts, injuring our troops.”
However, on June 25, the SSPP released a statement denying that their troops opened fire on the TNLA checkpoint near Man Pun village, Mongngawt, on June 24.
Lway Yay Oo stated that the SSPP released seven TNLA soldiers on June 24, adding that they will resolve the issues between them through alliance dialogues.
“These are merely issues between two alliances. We will resolve them solely through alliance dialogues. Therefore, our people should no longer be concerned about this issue,” she added.
A clash also broke out between the TNLA and SSPP at Huu Sun mountain in Kyaukme Township on June 15, resulting in two TNLA casualties and three injuries.
The TNLA and SSPP remain allies as members of the Federal Political Negotiation and Consultative Committee, led by the United Wa State Army.
