Lway Htwe, Jun 4, Kutkai
Residents are objecting to the Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army (MNDAA)’s construction of a checkpoint on a religious site in Ho Kho Village, Pan Kai Pan Law village tract, Kutkai Township, northern Shan State, according to the villagers.
Without holding any sort of public consultations, the MNDAA destroyed the religious donation receiving stage in Ho Kho village, and started building a checkpoint there since June 1. As the objections have risen, the MNDAA has moved the place for checkpoint aside with the stage but just a bit.
The MNDAA, without public consultation, demolished a religious donation counter in Ho Kho village and commenced checkpoint construction on June 1 at the place. After objections arose, the MNDAA shifted the checkpoint’s location, though it remains adjacent to the stage.
“They didn’t consult with us, instead they did just as they wanted. We don’t want their checkpoint and their troops to be stationed right there as the road is on the entrance of the village, as well as that land is a religious site,” said a resident.
To learn more about the situation, a Shwe Phee Myay reporter sent a letter to the MNDAA’s township office, but the armed group has not yet responded.
“If they place the checkpoint at the entrance, we’ll be even more concerned, as our languages are different. It will especially inconvenience women when they have to commute around the village’s areas,” said a female resident.
According to residents, the MNDAA established a new checkpoint near a cattle farm at the foot of Lwal Sam Sip Mountain in Kutkai beginning the last week of May.
