Shwe Phee Myay, May 17

As the Shan Revolution Day approaches, the Restoration Council of Shan State/Shan State Army (RCSS/SSA), has declared a ten-day halt to its attacks on the outposts of the Shan State Progress Party/Shan State Army (SSPP/SSA), for ten days, according to an RCSS statement.

The statement was released on Friday on the website of Hsan Loi Voice, a Shan-based media outlet that typically receives early access to RCSS statements. According to the statement, the RCSS will completely halt all attacks on SSPP/SSA outposts until May 25.

The statement said that Shan Revolution Day will mark its 68th anniversary on May 21, and RCSS/SSA Chair General Yawd Serk sent a letter to the SSPP informing them of his plan for officials and leaders from both Shan-ethnic armed groups to hold discussions with local communities while commemorating the anniversary on that day.

Clashes between the SSPP and RCSS have frequently erupted in Mong Kung, Lawksawk, and Panglong townships recently.

Additionally, the RCSS, which signed the National Ceasefire Agreement (NCA) that has not resisted the regime while many other groups are fighting against it, often meets with junta chief Min Aung Hlaing and his officials. On the other hand, the SSPP, despite not being an NCA signatory, has also frequently held meetings with the junta regime.
