Lway Lao Jar, Jun 13, Hsenwi
A man was injured when Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army (MNDAA) forces shot him as he fled an inspection in Hpar Tae Village, Hsenwi, a township controlled by the armed group in northern Shan State, according to residents.
The man, originally from Ohmli village, was entering Hpar Tae when MNDAA troops conducted an inspection for drug users in the village on June 9. He fled because he thought the MNDAA troops were drafting new recruits. He was then shot and injured, sources said.
“On that day, the MNDAA troops were conducting an inspection in the village. He didn’t know about it. So he was afraid when he saw the troops, as he thought they were drafting, and he ran away. A MNDAA soldier shot at him and he sustained an injury to his waist,” said a Hpa Tae resident.
He added that the MNDAA troops said they would take responsibility for the incident and would treat him well if he survives. They also stated that if he dies during the treatment, they would also take responsibility for further consequences.
U Maung Tun, 35, is currently receiving medical treatment at the General Hospital in Hsenwi after being shot by MNDAA troops.
In the second week of March 2024, a 34-year-old Kachin man from Kawngkhar Village Tract, Kutkai Township, who was suffering from a mental disorder, died during detention and interrogation by the MNDAA.
