The Mandalay People’s Defense Force (MDY PDF) has declared its commitment to firmly defend the junta military’s former bases and territories it seized during the Shan – Man Operation.

The statement also affirms that the MDY PDF operates under the command and supervision of the Ministry of Defense under the civilian National Unity Government (NUG).

During the Shan-Man operation launched in June 2024, the MDY PDF successfully captured large areas on the outskirts of Mandalay, including the areas in Thabeikkyin, Singu, and Madaya Townships.

However, in July, following pressure from China, the Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA) lost control of Nawnghkio Town, which was subsequently retaken by junta forces. The military also gradually regained control of Thabeikkyin Town, which had been previously held by the MDY PDF.

During ceasefire talks held this October between the TNLA and junta forces, the TNLA agreed to relinquish control of Mogok and Momeik towns.

Conflict analysts warn that the ceasefire could lead to increased pressure on the MDY PDF.

In response, the MDY PDF issued a statement affirming its commitment to continue resisting junta troops—alongside other revolutionary forces—regardless of the challenges ahead.
