Mai A Shai, Aug 8, Panghsang
A delegation led by U Aung Aung, the chief of the Shan State cabinet of the junta regime, visited Panghsang, the de facto capital of Wa State in eastern Shan State on the border with China, and they met with the leaders from United Wa State Army (UWSA).
Maj Soe Hlaing, the commander of the Triangle Region Command, accompanied the junta’s Shan State Chief. They arrived in Panghsang on August 6.
“It is true that the triangle regional commander and Shan State Chief visited Panghsang,” a source told Shwe Phee Myay.
U Aung Aung’s speech was cited by Wa News Land, a Wa State-based media outlet, which reported that the purpose of his visit was to discuss the development of health, education, and other sectors.
Neither side has stated whether they discussed topics related to the current conflict or political situations.
The UWSA, the armed wing of the United Wa State Party (UWSP), is the chair of the Federal Political Negotiation and Consultative Committee (FPNCC), an organization of ethnic armed groups in northern Myanmar. The UWSP/UWSA also attended a recent peace forum held by the junta.
