Mai Rupa, Dec 5, Momeik
The junta’s military troops, who regained control of Momeik town in northern Shan State following intervention by China, are now stationing in areas outside the town and attempting to secure the Momeik–Twin Nge road section, sources familiar with the situation told Shwe Phee Myay.
Another source reported that the troops currently control the Mogok–Momeik road section and have advanced as far as Man Gyi Pin Village along the Momeik–Twin Nge route.
“Beyond Man Gyi Pin Village, where the junta’s military is currently located, are the SSPP (Shan State Progress Party) forces, and further on are the KIA, PLA, and Pa-Ka-Pha (PDFs). If you continue past Man Gyi Pin, you will reach Twin Nge. The Momeik-Mabein road is controlled by the KIA,” the source stated.
There are also assessments that since the junta troops also control Twin Nge Village in Thabeikkyin Township, an offensive launched from Momeik could lead to fighting with the revolutionary forces located between Momeik and Twin Nge.
Junta troops who recently entered Momeik town are estimated to number in the hundreds, but they have not yet been able to establish an administrative mechanism.
The troops entered Momeik and Mogok—towns previously under the control of the Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA)—on November 29 and 30, with the assistance of China.
