Captured informants have confessed that the junta sent them to gather intelligence on revolutionary forces in northern Shan State, threatening them with arrest and prosecution if they failed to provide information after the towns were seized, according to the information obtained by Shwe Phee Myay.
It is also said that among the captured spies, evidence was found of them providing coordinates for airstrikes and information on the movements of revolutionary forces.
During the junta’s previous offensive on Nawnghkio, the resistance forces captured spies and found many evidences that they were providing coordinates for airstrikes. The detainees had previously confessed that the junta was paying them between 1 million and 5 million kyat for each coordinate.
The junta is currently launching ground offensives on Kyaukme and the Nawnghkio-Mogok road. They are also carrying out airstrikes on the towns of Kyaukme and Mogok.
At least 20 spies were sent from Lashio to each township in northern Shan State controlled by the Brotherhood Alliance to gather intelligence, and some of them have since been arrested and detained.
“They came in various forms. According to the confessions of those we’ve captured, almost all of them came from Lashio. They confessed that they were threatened with arrest and death if they couldn’t provide information after the town was captured,” said a revolutionary source who captured the junta spies.
The Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA), which is in intense fighting with the junta, has urged the public to always be militarily vigilant to avoid airstrikes and to follow air defense procedures to protect themselves from aerial threats.
