Junta airstrikes killed 75 civilians, including nine children, and injured 112 civilians, including 18 children, in regions controlled by the Palaung State Liberation Front/Ta’ang National Liberation Army (PSLF/TNLA) within the past five months, according to a statement released by the Ta’ang Civil Society Network (TCSN) on June 9.
The junta’s military launched 72 airstrikes between January and May in TNLA-controlled Mogok Township, Mandalay Region, and the northern Shan State townships of Kyaukme, Mongngawt, Monglon, Nawnghkio, and Manton.
According to the statement, these airstrikes killed 75 people, including 9 children, 47 men, and 19 women. They also injured 112 people, comprising 18 children, 68 men, and 26 women.
Additionally, junta airstrikes destroyed 157 houses, two hospitals, five schools, and six monasteries.
The TCSN has urged the international community to exert more pressure on the junta’s military council to prevent it from launching fatal airstrikes on markets, religious buildings, clinics, hospitals, and schools, especially in areas with no ground clashes.
The group also demanded that neighboring countries stop selling weapons to the junta and that its military cease using internationally banned chemical explosives. They further called for the International Court of Justice (ICJ) to issue a warrant against junta chief Min Aung Hlaing, and for the International Criminal Court (ICC) to accept the Myanmar case that has been handed over. The group urged the immediate implementation of these demands.
