The recent junta airstrike on Waibawng Village in Momeik Township killed eight people, including one child, bringing the total civilian death toll from such attacks in Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA)-controlled areas to 28 within a week, according to residents and victims’ families.

The junta’s military reportedly dropped a 250lb bomb into the center of Walbawng at around 6:30 p.m. on October 9. The attack instantly killed eight people—five men and three women, including one child. The exact information regarding the injured is not yet known.

“Eight people were killed, including one child. We don’t yet have an exact count of the injured, as they were rushed to hospitals and clinics immediately after the bombing. I couldn’t follow up with them, but I estimate around ten people were wounded,” said a woman familiar with the incident.

The victims killed in the bombing were U Than Hlaing (48), Ko Mai Mai (25), Ko Aung Chit Phyo (18), Ko Jet Li (17), U Kyaw Htoo (50), Ma Byine Ma (13), Daw Aye Lwin (53) and Daw Mar Mar Win (63). More than ten homes were also destroyed in the attack.

Earlier, on October 7, a junta airstrike on Man Hone Village in Monglon Town killed ten residents and injured three others.

Junta forces have continued launching airstrikes on towns and villages under the control of the TNLA. Between October 2 and October 9, these junta attacks killed 28 people—including four children—and injured 27 others, nine of whom were children.

The targeted townships include Kyaukme, Hsipaw, Mongngawt, Monglon, Namhsan, and Namtu. In response, the TNLA has issued a public advisory urging residents to remain extremely vigilant against the threat of further airstrikes.
