A 61-year-old man from Yadanar Myay ward in Bawdwin village, Namtu Township—an area under the control of the Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA) in northern Shan State—died after falling into a creek while intoxicated, according to a local witness.

The incident occurred late at night on December 27, 2025. The victim reportedly fell into Bawdwin Creek and drowned after being unable to climb back out.

“I believe he fell on the night of December 27, around 11:00 p.m., or midnight. His body was discovered the following morning, on December 28, at about 6:00 a.m.,” the witness said.

The Ta’ang Police Force under the TNLA in Namtu Township, together with local residents, recovered the man’s body and returned it to his family.

In a separate case on December 18, the body of a woman estimated to be around 30 years old was found at the confluence of the Bawdwin and Namtu creeks.
