The Hsipaw-Lashio Bridge at the exist of Hsipaw Township in northern Shan State has remained impassable for five consecutive days due to a mutual blockade imposed by the Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army (MNDAA) and the junta’s military.
“There’s talk that it might reopen on Nov 20. There are many rumors, but no official announcement has been made about the exact date,” said a female resident in Hsipaw.
The bridge, which serves as a key entry and exit point for Hsipaw, was closed indefinitely at 6:00 a.m. on November 14 by both sides.
As a result, local residents have resorted to using a stream crossing near Tarlone Village, where drivers report being charged 60,000 Kyats per vehicle.
One driver explained the detour: “From the Hsipaw 9 Mile junction, head to Nar Ma Khaw Village. Near the village entrance, there’s a turn-off by the school—take that right to reach Tarlone.”
Junta troops have blocked the bridge’s exit from Hsipaw, while the MNDAA has sealed off the entrance from Lashio.
In addition, the junta troops have reportedly blocked other key routes, including Nam Lan Town and Kyauk Gu Road in Hsipaw Township, as well as the entrance and exit of Mongyai Township in southern Shan State.
