Mai Rupa, Aug 2, Mogok
Junta military forces launched an airstrike near the Min Kyaik teashop in western Mogok — a township controlled by the Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA) — at around 8:20 a.m. today, killed 13 civilians, including a Buddhist monk, and injured 10 others, according to the residents.
The junta’s military dropped two 500lb bombs near U Shwe Maung’s teashop in western Mogok, a crowded area.
“They dropped two 500lb bombs, and the airstrike also struck passersby as the bombs landed directly onto the street. A monk was among those killed,” a resident told Shwe Phee Myay.
The airstrike also damaged numerous houses and buildings. Shwe Phee Myay is continuing to gather further details on the incident.
This follows an earlier junta airstrike on July 29, which hit western Mogok, killing one man and two women, and injuring 11 men and 7 women.
In the early morning of July 30, the junta’s military launched an airstrike on Yar Suthit (2) in Kutkai, another township controlled by the TNLA in northern Shan State. The attack killed six civilians and injured eight others.
The junta’s military has consistently launched airstrikes on TNLA-controlled towns, including Mogok, Kyaukme, Hsipaw, and Kutkai, leading to escalating civilian death tolls.
Following the junta’s recent declaration of martial law in 63 townships, including several controlled by the TNLA, experts are urging residents to remain vigilant, particularly regarding the threat of airstrikes.
