Poe Labar, May 20, 105-Mile
A man was killed by a junta-planted landmine near the 105-mile Trade Zone in Muse Township, northern Shan State, on the Chinese border, according to residents.
While herding cattle around 10:30 a.m. on May 15, Man Baha Doo, 42, from Ton Khan village near the 105-mile Trade Zone in junta-controlled Muse Township, pressed a landmine with his hand.
“He was herding cattle in the field behind the monastery in Ton Khan village. After a while, he sat down to rest, but his hand accidentally triggered a landmine set by the junta’s military, causing it to explode,” a resident explained.
Man Baha Doo’s right arm was amputated and his face sustained injuries in the landmine explosion, leading to his death.
According to figures gathered by Shwe Phee Myay, at least 15 civilians were killed and 29 injured by landmine and unexploded ordnance explosions in Namhsan, Kyaukme, Hsipaw, and Momeik from January to April.
